Music Therapy with Russell Scoones

Music has the power to touch us all deeply and this power is used in music therapy. Through improvising and creating music together, a trusting relationship is built up as the therapist helps the child or adult to find renewed self confidence, self esteem and improved quality of life. The unique qualities of music as therapy can enhance communication, support change, and enable people to live more resourcefully and creatively.

I am a UK and NZ registered music therapist and a community musician. My work has been with disabled and non-disabled children and adults for over 20 years in many settings including people with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, psychiatric disabilities and people with Alzheimer's and dementia. I trained at Roehampton University and specialise in guitar, percussion and voice. For many years I have been based in London but recently relocated to Auckland, New Zealand.

I am currently employed by the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre in Auckland. I also work as a private practitioner holding individual and group sessions with learning disabled adults, children with autism and people with social difficulties in private and residential homes.

If you wish to discuss music therapy for yourself or someone else, please contact me by email or telephone.

Music therapy is a state registered profession with the Health Professionals Council (UK).

I have had regular UK Criminal Records Bureau clearance to work with vulnerable children and adults.
